EASTERN WRESTLING LEAGUE WRESTLER OF THE WEEK

Our EWL Wrestler of the Week for the week ended November 7, 2010, is Cleveland State senior Robbie Michaels.  From Clyde, Ohio, Mr. Michaels is a three-time EWL place winner, who competes for the Vikings at 165 pounds.

This past weekend, on November 6, 2010, the Vikings competed in the Eastern Michigan Open, and Michaels won the title at 165 pounds, grabbing four victories on his way to the crown.  In his preliminary match, Michaels majored Alex Ortman of Eastern Michigan by a score of 10-2, then edged Mason Bailey of the Naval Academy in the quarter finals 3-2.  He then advanced into the finals by a default win, and, in the finals, decisioned Dan Yates of the University of Michigan 10-8.  Viking head coach Ben Stehura noted that his guys wrestled well in the event, and that Robbie’s taking first place was “obviously great.”

Congratulations to Cleveland State’s Robbie Michaels, our EWL Wrestler of the Week.

Also, the EWL tips its headgear to the eight EWL grapplers who won titles in the November 6th Clarion Knight Point Open.  They are:  Joe Waltko of Clarion at 133 pounds; Tyler Nauman of Pittsburgh at 141 pounds; James Fleming of Clarion at 157 pounds; Adam Counterman of Pittsburgh at 165; Ethan Headlee of Pittsburgh at 174; Max Thommuseit of Pittsburgh at 184; Zac Thomusseit of Pittsburgh at 197 pounds; and Ryan Tomei of Pittsburgh at heavy weight.  Well done.
