EASTERN WRESTLING LEAGUE WRESTLER OF THE WEEK

 Our EWL Wrestler of the Week for the week ended January 24, 2010, is Matt Wilps, who is a sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh.  Matt is a graduate of near-by Chartiers Valley High School, and this season is nationally ranked for the Panthers at 197 pounds.

 Pittsburgh, currently ranked 18th in the NWCA's Top 25 Dual Meet poll, won two matches this past week.  On January 21, 2010, the Panthers beat Cleveland State 43-3, and, on January 23, they defeated the University of Pennsylvania 28-6.  Wilps gained a first-period pin against CSU.  Against Penn, Mr. Wilps made a huge contribution to the team victory by grabbing a 2-1 decision over top 20-ranked Micah Burak.  Those two dual meet wins elevated the Panthers won/lost record this season to a healthy 13-1-1.
