EASTERN WRESTLING LEAGUE WRESTLER OF THE WEEK

Welcome to another year of EWL wrestling!  This week some of the EWL wrestlers opened our season by competing in the Buffalo Open on Sunday, November 1, 2009.  This year the event had over 240 wrestlers, and our EWL guys grabbed titles in four of the weight classes.  EWL champs were:  Dane Johnson at 141 pounds (a University of Pittsburgh true freshman); Chris Honeycutt at 184 pounds (an Edinboro University junior); Matt Wilps at 197 pounds (a University of Pittsburgh sophomore); and Ryan Tomei at 285 pounds (a junior at the University of Pittsburgh).

Our EWL Wrestler of the Week for the week ended November 1, 2009, based on his excellent performance at the Buffalo Open, is Ryan Tomei.  Mr. Tomei marauded his way through the event, starting off with a quick (1:09) pin, two major decisions, then an 8-2 win in the semi finals, topped off with a 9-2 victory in the championship finals over nationally ranked Pat Gilmore of the University of Maryland.

Congratulations to Ryan Tomei, our EWL Wrestler of the Week.

Come on out this season, and support your favorite college wrestling team.  Wrestling fans know that ours is the oldest and best sport on Earth.
