EASTERN WRESTLING LEAGUE WRESTLER OF THE WEEK

The Eastern Wrestling League Wrestler of the Week for the week ended December 21, 2008, is Chris Honeycutt.  Honeycutt, a sophomore at Edinboro University, competes at 184 pounds, and is from North Ridgeville, Ohio.  This past weekend, on December 18, Edinboro competed at the powerful Reno Tournament of Champions, and finished a very strong second in the team race (behind Oklahoma State), and grabbed three individual crowns.  Gregor Gillespie won the title at 157 pounds, Jarrod King was victorious at 165, and Mr. Honeycutt grabbed the gold at 184.

In taking the title, Honeycutt cruised to five wins.  In the opening round he won 7-1, and then shut-out his next opponent 7-0.  In the quarter-finals Chris recorded an 11-2 major decision, then in the semi-finals majored nationally ranked John Barone of Duke by a score of 12-2.  In the championship finals Honeycutt defeated Joe LeBlanc, currently ranked 10th in the nation by WR.com, by a score of 4-1.

Congratulations to Chris Honeycutt, our Eastern Wrestling League's Wrestler of the Week!

Since the EWL teams are not scheduled to compete for a while, we will not have a Wrestler of the Week for the coming week.  We take this opportunity to wish all of you amateur wrestling fans a very good Holiday Season and New Year!  Thank you.
