The Eastern Wrestling League Wrestler of the Week for the week ended December 7, 2008, is Gregor Gillespie.  Gillespie, a senior at Edinboro University, is nationally ranked at 157 pounds, and is from Webster, New York.  Gillespie, who won the 2007 NCAA Tournament (then competing at 149 pounds), is a three-time NCAA All-American and three-time EWL champion (OW in 2008).

On Saturday, December 6, 2008, the Edinboro Fighting Scots competed in the 66th annual PSAC Tournament, held in Erie, PA, and dominated the event.  Edinboro won the team title, scoring 173.5 points, and had seven individual champs, as follows:  Joel Webster at 141, Torsten Gillespie at 149, Gregor Gillespie at 157, Jarrod King at 165, Chris Honeycutt at 184, Pat Bradshaw at 197, and Joe Fendone (who pinned his way through the Tournament) at 285 pounds.  Gregor beat Bloomsburg NCAA All-American, Matt Moley, 3-0 in the PSAC finals, was voted OW for the second year straight, and now sports a 13-0 record for the current season.

Good job Gregor Gillespie, our EWL Wrestler of the Week!

Also, the EWL tips its headgear to the Pittsburgh Panther wrestling team that finished a strong fourth in the powerful Cliff Keen Invitational Tournament, held December 5-6, 2008, in Las Vegas.  Tyler Nauman (141 pounds) and Zach Sheaffer (285 pounds) led the Panthers with runnerup efforts at the event.

Further, a tip of the headgear to Clarion's Jay Ivanco and Bloomsburg's Nate Graham.  This past weekend Mr. Ivanco won the PSAC crown at 125 pounds, and Mr. Graham grabbed the gold at 174.
