EASTERN WRESTLING LEAGUE WRESTLER OF THE WEEK
The Eastern Wrestling League Wrestler of the Week for the week ended November 9, 2008, Jarrod King. Jarrod is a senior at Edinboro University, competes at 165 pounds, and is from Connellsville, Pennsylvania. This past season King won the EWL Crown (at 165), and this year is focused, not only on repeating his EWL title, but also gaining All-Americanship at the 2009 NCAA Tournament.
This past Saturday, November 8, 2008,
Edinboro competed in the Oklahoma Gold Tournament, held in Brockport, NY. Mr.
King started off with a 16-1 tech fall in the quarter finals over his opponent
from Rutgers, then pinned Hofstra's Ryan Patrovich in the semis. In the
finals, King bested highly nationally ranked Trevor Stewart of Central Michigan,
by a score of 4-2. King helped lead the Fighting Scots to a second-place
finish (123 team points) in the eight-team event, won by Oklahoma University
with 140 points. Edinboro finished ahead of MAC aces Central Michigan
(third place) and Kent State (fourth place), powerful Hofstra (fifth), and EIWA
stalwart, Army, that finished in sixth place.
Good job Jarrod King, our EWL Wrestler of the Week.
In addition, the EWL tips its headgear to ten other EWL wrestlers who represented our conference well this past weekend at the Oklahoma Gold, the Michigan State Open, and the Washington & Jefferson Open. Edinboro champions at the Oklahoma Gold Tournament, besides Jarrod King, were Gregor Gillespie (157 pounds) and Joey Fendone (at 285). Two other Fighting Scots copped titles at the Michigan State Open, with Paul Donahoe winning the crown at 125 pounds, and Garrett Scott grabbing the gold at 149. Cleveland State's Rashard Goff placed first at 285 pounds in that event.
Further, the Michigan State Open also had a Freshman/Sophomore Division, and two Bloomsburg Huskies won titles in that competition. True freshman Matt Snyder won at 125 pounds, and true frosh Josh Roosa took the crown at 149. Meanwhile, three Lock Haven University grapplers placed first in the Washington & Jefferson Open. Evan Kolb won at 125 pounds, Tom Kocher won at 184, and Dan Craig took first at heavy weight.
Come on out this season and support your favorite college wrestling team! Thank you.
