EASTERN WRESTLING LEAGUE WRESTLER OF THE WEEK

   Our EWL Wrestler of the Week for the week ended January 25, is Donnie Jones.  From Slickville, Pennsylvania, Jones is a junior at West Virginia University, and majoring in civil engineering.  Mr. Jones, who competes at 165 pounds, was an EWL finalist and NCAA qualifier this past season, and is in the hunt for higher honors this year.

 This past weekend Jones cobbled together two major decisions, to help lead the Mountaineers to two crucial dual meet wins, one against Bloomsburg University (19-16 on January 23) and the other over Clarion University (22-14 on January 24).  Those two victories thrust West Virginia into the thick of the 2009 EWL dual-meet team race, along with Edinboro University and the University of Pittsburgh, all three tied with EWL records of 2-0.  By the way, WVU's next EWL encounter will be January 31, against the Lock Haven University Bald Eagles, at historic Thomas Field House in Lock Haven.
