The Eastern Wrestling League Wrestler of the Week for the week ended November 25, 2007, is Keith Gavin of the University of Pittsburgh. Mr. Gavin is a senior from Factoryville, Pennsylvania, who competes at 174 pounds.
This past season Gavin won the 2007 EWL crown, finished second at the NCAA Tournament, and completed the campaign with a W/L record of 28-4. Gavin, coming off that stellar season, undefeated this year and ranked number one in the country at 174, was selected to compete in the showcase event, the NWCA All-Star Classic.
The All-Star event was held November 19, 2007, at the University of Oregon. Keith Gavin wrestled the number two ranked wrestler in the nation at 174, Matt Stolpinski of the Naval Academy. Gavin won the match by a final score of 8-4.
In the first period Gavin registered a take-down and rode for 1:22 before Stolpinski escaped. Mr. Stolpinski chose down to start the second period and gained another escape. Gavin then registered another TD and Stolpinski escaped to end the period.
Gavin took down to start the third period and quickly escaped, making the score 5-3. Gavin then gained his third TD of the match, and Stolpinski escaped near the end of the period. With a point for riding time, Gavin gained the 8-4 win.
Congratulations to Keith Gavin, our EWL Wrestler of the Week, and we thank him for representing our League so well at the All-Star event.
