The Eastern Wrestling League Wrestler of the Week for the week ended November 11, 2007, is Edinboro's NCAA champion, Gregor Gillespie.  A junior out of Webster, New York, Gillespie has moved up to 157 pounds this season.  This past weekend, Mr. Gillespie racked up five wins and grabbed the title at the large Michigan State Open event.

On his way to the tournament finals, Gillespie scored a 15-0 tech fall, a 17-0 tech fall, an 11-4 decision in the quarter finals, and a 7-4 decision in the semis.  In the championship finals, Gregor defeated the University of Michigan's Jeff Marsh by a score of 5-3.

Congratulations to Gregor Gillespie, our EWL Wrestler of the Week.

Besides the open competition, the Michigan State event also featured a Freshman/Sophomore division.  Three young EWL grapplers captured crowns in that division.  True freshman Thomas Straughn (Edinboro) won the title at 149 pounds, redshirt freshman Rob Michaels (Cleveland State) took first at 157, and Paul Paddock (Edinboro) won at 165 pounds.  Well done guys!

Also, the EWL tips its headgear to the University of Pittsburgh wrestling team for their 24-9 victory, on November 11, over Lehigh University of the EIWA.  Panther winners in that dual meet were:  Brad Gentzle by pin at 125; Drew Headlee by decision at 141; Matt Kocher by decision at 157; Keith Gavin by decision at 174; Dave Sullivan by decision at 184;  A.J. Hunte by decision at 197; and Zach Scheaffer by decision at 285 pounds.

Come on out and support your favorite college wrestling team this season!  Thank you.
