The Eastern Wrestling League Wrestler of the Week for the week ended February 10, 2008, is Zach Sheaffer.  Zach is a fourth-year junior at the University of Pittsburgh, from Carlisle, Pennsylvania, who competes for the Panthers at 285 pounds.

On February 8, the Pittsburgh wrestling team traveled to Morgantown, West Virginia, to take on the Mountaineers in the WVU Coliseum.  Both Pitt and WVU were unbeaten at 3-0 this season in EWL intra-league dual meets and both aiming for the 2008 EWL Dual Meet Championship.

The meet started at 125 pounds, and, after the 197-pound bout, West Virginia led 17 to 15.  Dustin Rogers, ranked 15th in the nation at hwt (WR.com Rankings), took the mat for the Mountaineers against Sheaffer.  The dual meet was on the line.  In the first period Mr. Sheaffer scored a takedown and three back points, which proved to be the winning margin.  Scheaffer won the bout 9-3 and the Panthers won the dual meet 18-17.

That dual-meet win raised Sheaffer's W/L record this season to 29-8, and he currently is ranked 11th in the nation by WR.com at 285 pounds.  Zach is looking forward to a successful completion of the dual-meet season, a second EWL title (Sheaffer won the 2005 EWL Tournament as a true freshman), and then on to the NCAA Tournament and a podium finish.

Congratulations to Zach Sheaffer, our EWL Wrestler of the Week.
