The Eastern Wrestling League Wrestler of the Week for the week ended January 20, 2008, is Chris Honeycutt, a true freshman at Edinboro University, from North Ridgeville, Ohio. Honeycutt is a business major, who competes for the Fighting Scots at 184 pounds. Last season Chris won the 2007 Ohio state high school tournament and the powerful Ironman event, competing at 189 pounds for St. Edwards.
This season Mr. Honeycutt wrestled his way into the Edinboro starting lineup, and was particularly impressive at the late December Southern Scuffle, where he placed a solid third. Honeycutt currently is ranked 17th in the nation at 184, by both WrestlingReport.com and InterMat.
This past week Honeycutt helped Edinboro gain two dual meet wins against EWL opponents, as the Fighting Scots beat Clarion (34-7) and Bloomsburg (25-9). Chris gained a 13-8 decision against Clarion, and a 9-1 major in his Bloomsburg bout.
After the Clarion and Bloomsburg matches, Edinboro head coach Tim Flynn stated that Honeycutt is "developing very well, competes hard, and I really like his intensity." The two wins raise Mr. Honeycutt's W/L record for this season to 16-3.
Congratulations to Chris Honeycutt, our EWL Wrestler of the Week.
