The Eastern Wrestling League Wrestler of the Week for the week ended January 6, 2008, is Kurt Brenner, a junior at West Virginia University.  Brenner, from Freedom, Pennsylvania, is a former EWL champion and two-time EWL finalist, at 174 pounds, who has moved up to 184 this season.

  This past week the Mountaineers traveled to California, and Mr. Brenner led the team to two wins.  One January 2, 2008, WVU beat Cal-Fullerton 27-12, and on January 3 defeated Cal-Poly 24-12.  In the Cal-Fullerton match Brenner edged nationally ranked Ian Murphy 3-2, and in the Cal-Poly meet he decisioned Yuri Kalika by the score of 10-3.

  Those were two solid wins for West Virginia and Kurt Brenner.  This coming weekend the Mountaineers will be competing at the NWCA National Duals at Northern Iowa, and we wish them the very best at that show-case event.
