Lock Haven University's Obe Blanc
The Eastern Wrestling League Wrestler of the Week for the week ended December 17, 2006, is Obe Blanc, a senior from Naples, Florida, who competes at 125 pounds for the Lock Haven University Bald Eagles. This past weekend Mr. Blanc went on a rampage, winning four dual-meet bouts, two over nationally ranked wrestlers.
On December 15 Lock Haven traveled 35 miles west to State College, to take on eighth-ranked Penn State University. Mr. Blanc started the dual meet off with a come-from-behind 9-8 win over third-ranked 125-pounder Mark McKnight. The Bald Eagles threw a 20-15 scare into the Lions, winning five bouts by decision.
On December 17 LHU went 3-0 in the Clarion Duals. In that event, Blanc opened with a 7-4 win over 20th-ranked Steve Mytych of Drexel, then garnered two tech falls over opponents from Pitt-Johnstown and East Stroudsburg. Obe, who last month won the Mat-Town Open, has a W/L record of 16-2 this season.
Congratulations to Obe Blanc, our Eastern Wrestling League Wrestler of the Week!
The EWL also would like to tip its headgear to four other EWL wrestlers, and the Bloomsburg Huskies. At the Clarion Duals the host team dropped rather close matches to Drexel and Pitt-Johnstown, but defeated East Stroudsburg 26-12. Three Golden Eagle grapplers - Sal Lascari (133 pounds), Greg Lewis (141) and hwt A.J. Brooks - went 3-0 on the day. Also, on December 16, Cleveland State's Victer Crenshaw won the 157-pound title at the CSU Viking Open. Good job guys!
Further, on December 17, Bloomsburg hosted a multi-team dual-meet event. The Huskies won all three of their matches, besting Delaware State 52-0, Bucknell 31-12, and Buffalo 23-13. The victories raised the Huskies' season record to 4-4.
Come on out and support your favorite wrestling team. Remember, America needs wrestling! Thank you.
