West Virginia University's Jared Villers

  The Eastern Wrestling League Wrestler of the Week for the week ended February 4, 2007, is Jared Villers, a junior, who majors in business marketing and wrestles 197 for West Virginia University.  This past weekend Mr. Villers scored a tech fall in his match against the University of Pittsburgh, leading the Mountaineers to an important 18-16 intra-EWL dual-meet win.  The win elevates WVU to an EWL record of 2-1, and keeps them in the race for our EWL dual-meet team championship.

  Last season Villers won the EWL title at 197 pounds, won a bout at the 2006 NCAA Tournament, and completed the year with a record of 21-12.  This season the Ohio native, focused on March, has his sights set even higher.  So far this season Jared has won the WVU Open, finished first at the Navy Classic, placed in both the Las Vegas and Midlands tournaments, and leads his team in wins with 19 (current record 19-5).
