Edinboro University Fighting Scots
The Eastern Wrestling League Wrestlers of the Week for the week ended January 14, 2007, are the Edinboro University Fighting Scots. This past weekend Edinboro, under head coach Tim Flynn, won the team title at the Virginia Duals, one of America's showcase amateur wrestling events.
The Virginia Duals university bracket consisted of 16 Division I teams from all across the country. Penn State University, ranked 10th in the nation, was seeded number one, and Edinboro University, ranked 12th in the country, was seeded number two. In the first round Penn State beat North Dakota State 34-3 and Edinboro shutout Virginia Tech 43-0. In the quarter finals the Nittany Lions defeated Bloomsburg University 22-9, while the Fighting Scots took Drexel by a score of 34-6.
In the Virginia Duals semi finals, Penn State whomped Rider and Edinboro beat Kent State University 24-12. That set up the finals showdown, with Edinboro upending Penn State 19-17. That was a nice dual-meet win for the Fighting Scots and their 4-0 performance upped their season record to 12-1.
Congratulations to the Edinboro Wrestling Team, our EWL Wrestlers of the Week! Also, we appreciate Edinboro's representing our League so well this past weekend in a national event.
