Cleveland State University's Ron Howard.

The Eastern Wrestling League Wrestler of the Week for the week ended December 11, 2005, is Cleveland State University's Ron Howard.  From Cincinnati, Ron is an outstanding student-athlete.  Howard, a senior, is a communications major.  He's an excellent student and on-track to graduate in four years.  Viking head coach Jack Effner describes Ron as a team leader and very hard worker.

Besides his emphasis on academics, Mr. Howard also makes time to wrestle.  Twice he has placed third in the EWL Tournament (at 184 pounds) and is a two-time NCAA qualifier.  This season Ron, the CSU captain, is nationally ranked and already has racked up 15 victories (15-3) for the current season.  On Saturday, December 10, Cleveland State wrestled a dual meet against Big Ten power Michigan State.  Howard squared off against the Spartans' nationally ranked Joe Williams, a sophomore out of California (Calvary Chapel High School), and battled his way to a win.

Williams led the match 1-0 at the start of the third period.  Howard escaped to tie the score.  Then, near the end of the bout, Howard secured a take-down and put Williams on his back for a three-point near fall.  Final score:  Howard 6 Williams 1.  Good job!

Congratulations to Ron Howard, our Eastern Wrestling League's Wrestler of the Week!
