Edinboro University's  Joe Fendone

The Eastern Wrestling League Wrestler of the Week for the week ended February 19, 2006, is Joe Fendone, a freshman from Massachusetts, who wrestles 197 pounds for Edinboro University.  Mr. Fendone has had a huge week, helping lead the undefeated Fighting Scots to the EWL dual-meet crown and, for some icing on the cake, grabbed the EWL title for most team points scored in intra-league competition.  Good job Joe!

  Edinboro entered this past weekend with an EWL dual-meet record of 4-0 (10-0 overall) with matches against the University of Pittsburgh and West Virginia University remaining.  The Fighting Scots needed to win both of those meets to secure the EWL dual-meet title and to complete their dual-meet season undefeated.  With Fendone helping lead the charge, EUP battled to decisive victories in both events.  Joe won by decision against the Panthers and by fall against the Mountaineers.

  Each year the EWL awards a trophy to the wrestler who scores the most team points in intra-league dual-meet competition.  With his recent wins by decision and pin against EWL opponents, Fendone raised his intra-league team-point total to 27, and won the point crown for 2006.

  Congratulations to Joe Fendone, our Eastern Wrestling League Wrestler of the Week, and to the entire Edinboro wrestling team on its EWL dual-meet championship and undefeated season.

  The EWL Tournament will be held March 4-5 at Edinboro University.  Come on out and see Division I wrestling at its best!
