University of Pittsburgh's Zach Sheaffer
The Eastern Wrestling League's wrestler of the week for the week ended January 9, 2005, is the University of Pittsburgh's heavyweight Zach Sheaffer. Mr. Sheaffer is from Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Cumberland Valley High School.
This season Sheaffer, a true freshman, stepped up and took over the starting spot in the 285-pound weight class for the Panthers, and Zach just keeps getting better each week. This past weekend Sheaffer racked up two big wins over nationally ranked opponents, in dual meets against Lehigh and Penn State.
Against Lehigh, on January 8, Sheaffer countered a first-period throw attempt by Paul Weibel, held Weibel on his back, and finally scored the fall at 2:14. On a roll, the next day Zach tallied a 5-3 decision over Penn State senior Josh Walker. Well done Zach!
Congratulations to Zach Sheaffer, our Eastern Wrestling League wrestler of the week. Come on out and support your favorite wrestling team this week. America needs wrestling.
