University of Pittsburgh's Ron Tarquinio
The EWL wrestler of the week for the week ended December 5, 2004, is the University of Pittsburgh ace Ron Tarquinio. Late November Mr. Tarquinio helped lead Pittsburgh to a fine fourth-place finish at Mat-Town. This past weekend he led the Panthers to a top 10 finish at the powerful Las Vegas Invite, and did so by capturing the title at 141 pounds. Well done Ron!
In the preliminary rounds at Vegas Tarquinio hurled back-to-back shutouts, winning his first match 6-0 and the second by 8-0. In the quarter finals Ron beat NCAA Division II All-American Kortney Lake of Adams State by a score of 4-0. In the semi finals Tarquinio knocked off Nebraska star Matt Murray by 3-2 decision. You all know Matt Murray - he was runnerup at the 2004 NCAA Tournament at 141 pounds. In the finals Tarquinio decisioned Richard LaForge of Hofstra 6-3.
Congratulations to Ron Tarquinio, our Eastern Wrestling League's wrestler of the week!
Also, a tip of the headgear to all the University of Pittsburgh team on its fine Vegas showing and equally to the University of Edinboro Fighting Scots, who tied Pitt for tenth place in the final Vegas team standings.
