West Virginia University's Greg Jones
The EWL wrestler of the week for the week ended February 6, 2005, is West Virginia University's Greg Jones, a senior from Slickville Pennsylvania.
Each season the Eastern Wrestling League crowns their dual-meet team champion, and this past weekend Greg Jones led West Virginia University to its third EWL dual meet win of the 2005 season, besting Pittsburgh. Mr. Jones, a two-time NCAA champion, gained a fall in that meet, and the Mountaineers now stand at 3-0 in intra-league competition.
Jones entered this season with a fabulous collegiate career mark of 101-4 and is undefeated on the year. In addition, Greg has scored a total of 18 team points (two pins and one win by default) in the Mountaineers' three EWL dual meets, which puts him in the team-scoring lead. In that connection, the EWL also gives a trophy at the end of each season to its wrestler who scores the most team points in EWL dual meets.
Edinboro University currently holds a 2-0 EWL dual-meet mark and is the only other undefeated EWL team in intra-league matches this season. Circle February 17th on your wrestling calendar. That's the date the Fighting Scots and the Mountaineers do battle at Morgantown.
Congratulations to Greg Jones, our Eastern Wrestling League's wrestler of the week!
