Edinboro University's Shawn Bunch

The EWL wrestler of the week for the week ended November 7, 2004, is Edinboro University's Shawn Bunch. On November 6 Shawn smoked his way through the Eastern Michigan Open, winning the title at 133 pounds.

Mr. Bunch opened with a 13-6 decision, then racked up two pins, and recorded a 12-5 win in the semi finals. In the finals Shawn beat his opponent from Michigan by a score of 15-8. From Kansas, Bunch is a fourth-year junior, who took last season off to concentrate on freestyle. As a true freshman, Shawn won the 2002 EWL Tournament at 125 pounds and repeated as EWL champion in 2003 at 133 pounds and was voted the Tournament's outstanding wrestler. Cat-quick Shawn has a career record at Edinboro of 57-20, placed top 12 in the 2002 NCAA Tournament, and is strongly focused on becoming an NCAA All-American this season.

Other EWL wrestlers who won titles at the Eastern Michigan Open last weekend were Brad Forbes of Bloomsburg at 141 pounds, Nate Yetzer of Edinboro at 165 pounds, and Nate Shirk of Bloomsburg at 184. In addition, seven EWL guys won crowns at the West Virginia University Open, held November 7 at Morgantown. The EWL's WVU Open champs were: Mike Sees (Bloomsburg/125), Seth Lisa (West Virginia/133), Frank Edgar (Clarion/141), Jeff Ecklof (Pittsburgh/149), Matt Lebe (West Virginia/157), Greg Jones (West Virginia/184), and Moose Miller (West Virginia/285 pounds).
