Matt King of Edinboro University
The EWL wrestler of the week for the week ending November 2, 2003, is Edinboro University senior Matt King. Last season King, competing at 165 pounds, won the PSAC crown, the EWL title, placed fourth in the 2003 NCAA Tournament, and finished the season with a gaudy record of 42-7.
This season Matt King started off the year right, by storming through the Eastern Michigan Open Tournament this past weekend (held 11/1/03) to win the 165-pound crown. Matt opened with an 8-3 first-round decision, scored a fall in his second match, racked up a 13-1 win in the quarter finals, and gained a 13-4 major in the semis. King won a solid 6-2 decision in the finals over nationally ranked David Bolyard of Central Michigan.
Congratulations to our EWL Wrestler of the Week, NCAA All-American Matt King! Also, a tip of the headgear to two other Edinboro wrestlers who won titles at the Eastern Michigan Open, Nate Yetzer at 174 pounds and Alex Clemsen at 184. Good job guys.
