The EWL "WRESTLER OF THE WEEK"
for the week ended February 18, 2001

John Testa of  Clarion University

Our Eastern Wrestling League "Wrestler of the Week" for the week ended February 18, 2001, is Clarion University heavyweight JOHN TESTA from Newark, Delaware. Big John is one of the Golden Eagle leaders, and he assumed that role last weekend when Clarion ventured south to wrestle dual meets against the two best college teams in the Commonwealth of Virginia. On Friday Testa majored his Virginia Tech opponent 13-2 and on Saturday he majored the University of Virginia’s Ryan Painter 10-2. Last year Mr. Painter was Atlantic Coast Conference runner-up at 285 pounds.

More important than the individual wins, Clarion won the Virginia Tech meet by a score of 23-21, to finish their EWL dual-meet schedule with a solid 5-2 record, and edged Virginia 19-18, to conclude its season at 11-3 overall. Clarion, under head coach Ken Nellis, has had a very good dual-meet season and now will focus on the EWL and NCAA Tournaments.

Congratulations to John Testa, our EWL "Wrestler of the Week!"

(Editors’ Note: This concludes our EWL "Wrestler of the Week" selections for the 2000-2001 season. We look forward to seeing you all at the EWL Tournament at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA, on March 3-4, and at the NCAA Tournament in Iowa thereafter.)
