RANDE STOTTLEMYER, KEITH GAVIN and CHRIS HONEYCUTT WIN EWL AWARDS
On March 26, 2008, the Eastern Wrestling League announced that the University of Pittsburgh’s Rande Stottlemyer has been named EWL coach of the year for 2008, the University of Pittsburgh’s Keith Gavin has been selected as EWL wrestler of the year, and Edinboro University’s Chris Honeycutt is EWL freshman wrestler of the year.
This season Coach Rande Stottlemyer led the Pitt Panthers to a sixth-place finish at the Midlands, a dual meet record of 13-4, and a second-place finish at the EWL Tournament. In addition, under Coach Stottlemyer’s guidance, the University of Pittsburgh grabbed sixteenth place at the 2008 NCAA Tournament, with the Panthers’ Keith Gavin winning the title at 174 pounds.
The EWL’s wrestler of the year, Keith Gavin, from Factoryville, Pennsylvania, is a senior at the University of Pittsburgh. Competing at 174 pounds, Mr. Gavin had a stellar 2008 season, winning the Las Vegas Invitational, the Midlands, the EWL Tournament, and the 2008 NCAA Tournament. Gavin completed his senior year undefeated at 27-0.
The EWL’s freshman of the year is Chris Honeycutt, from North Ridgeville, Ohio, who competes at 184 pounds for Edinboro University. This season Mr. Honeycutt wrestled very well in two major tournaments, placing third in the Southern Scuffle and also taking second at the EWL Tournament, which qualified him to compete in the NCAA’s. At the 2008 NCAA Tournament, Honeycutt won one of three bouts, finishing the 2008 campaign with a solid record of 22-8.
