WEST VIRGINIA WRESTLERS TOP CLARION 35-3
(Morgantown, WV): West Virginia won 9 of 10 matches on Thursday night and defeated Clarion 35-3 in an EWL (Eastern Wrestling League) dual meet.
Held at the Coliseum, in Morgantown, West Virginia, Clarion’s record dropped to 6-9 overall and 0-2 in the EWL, while West Virginia jumped to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the EWL.
Clarion’s lone win came at 133-pounds when Ron LaBrake decisioned Jared Garvin 4-3. LaBrake had a first period takedown and a second period escape to lead 3-0. Garvin escaped in the third period and got his own takedown with about 10 seconds remaining. LaBrake won the bout with 1:07 riding time.
West Virginia’s Kyle Turnbull started the Mountaineers rolling at 125 with a 4-2 decision over Jay Ivanco.
With Sal Lascari out with an injury, brother Tony filled in and wrestled well in a 4-2 loss to Stephen Waites. Waites reversal in the third period was the difference..
WVU’s Dave Jauregui majored Hadley Harrison 14-5, and Zac Fryling decisioned Travis Uncapher 13-6 at 157 to give WVU control of the match.
After forfeiting at 167, Clarion’s Mario Morelli lost 6-4 to Chance Litton at 174, and Scott Joseph lost 7-4 to Kurt Brenner at 184.
WVU’s #12 ranked Jared Villers majored Jamie Luckett 12-3 at 197, and #17 Dustin Rogers pinned Roman Husam at heavyweight at 39-seconds.
Clarion returns to action on Friday hosting Duquesne and Wagner in a double dual starting at 5:30pm at Tippin Gym.
