Bald Eagles come from behind to beat Clarion 21-13 in EWL action
CLARION, Pa. – The Lock Haven University wrestling team (9-7, 2-4 EWL) came from behind tonight and beat Clarion University (10-14-1, 1-4 EWL) 21-13 on the road in Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) action as the Bald Eagles won the last five bouts of the dual to rally past CU in Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium.
The match started at 133 and the Bald Eagles fell in the first two bouts of the evening as Clarion quickly took a 7-0 lead.
Redshirt-junior Matt Fittery (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) continued his winning streak and notched his team-leading 20th win of the season to put the Haven back in it.
Clarion went on to pick up two straight wins at 157 and 165 taking a 13-3 advantage, but the Bald Eagles weren’t done and rallied to win the next five matches.
Junior Tom Kocher (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township), sophomore Jeremie Cook (Venice, Fla./Venice), redshirt-junior Ben Hepburn (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) and rookies Dan Craig (Paw Paw, Mich./Allegan) and John Trumbetti (Montvale, N.J./St. Joseph Regional) all picked up wins for LHU as the Haven swept from 174-125 on their way to the win.
The Bald Eagles are back in action a week from today (Saturday, Feb. 23) at 8 p.m. when they host local rival Penn State University.
