CLARION WRESTLERS DROP GARDNER-WEBB/TIE EMU
(Ypsilanti, Mi.): Clarion’s Men’s Wrestling went 1-1-1 on Saturday at Eastern Michigan University’s Bowen Gymnasium. The Golden Eagles defeated Gardner Webb 47-6, rallied to tie Eastern Michigan 16-16 and lost a tough, close match to Northern Illinois 24-17. Against Eastern Michigan, with Clarion down 13-9, sophomore Hadley Harrison (So. McKean) notched a big 13-3 major decision against David Pienaar at 149-pounds, tying the team score 13-13. After Travis Uncapher lost a 7-4 decision at 157, junior Dominic Ross (Jr. Sharon) decisioned Justin Brandel 10-5 to pull the Golden Eagles up to the 16-16 tie. Also posting wins against EMU were Mario Morelli at 174, Jamie Luckett at 197 and Jay Ivanco at 125. Against Gardner Webb the Golden Eagles won 9 of 10 matches, including 5 pins from Scott Joseph (So. Export) at 174, Roman Husam (Fr.Lewisburg) at 285, Jay Ivanco (Fr. Monroeville) at 125, Sal LAScari (Jr. Gray) at 141 and Hadley Harrison (So. McKean) at 149. Sophomore Mario Morelli got the Golden Eagles out to a 4-0 start when he majored Chad Davis 9-0 at 174. Joseph scored a first period pin over Matthias Piasecki at 184, Jamie Luckett won by forfeit at heavyweight and Roman Husam pinned Windell Wilson at 1:54 to stake Clarion to a 22-0 lead. Going to the lighweights, Jay Ivanco kept it going with a fall at 1:54 over Tom Bennett and Clarion led 28-0. Clarion’s lone loss came at 133 when Rob Tate pinned Rob LaBrake at 3:41. The Eagles bounced back as co-captains Sal Lascari and Hadley Harrison both notched pins. Lascari pinned Charles Franz at 5:38 in the 141-pound bout, then Harrison pinned Ed McCray at 2:41 at 149-pounds to give Clarion a 40-6 lead and the win. Clarion closed out G-W as Travis Uncapher scored a 15-5 major decision over Austin Reece at 157 and Dominic Ross won a 16-11 battle versus Brendan Couture at 165.
Clarion won 5 of 10 bouts against Northern Illinois, but fell 24-17. Scott Joseph had a major decision at 184, Jamie Luckett a decision at 197, Hadley Harrison and Travis Uncapher decisions at 149 and 157 and Dom Ross a major decision at 165. CLARION NOTES: The Golden Eagles are now 9-13-1 on the season and come back to Tippin Gym to host Cleveland State on Thursday night at 7:30pm … Today Clarion’s Jamie Luckett, Hadley Harrison and Dominic Ross were all 3-0 on the day.
