Bloomsburg Ties Buffalo at Buffalo Duals

BUFFALO— The Bloomsburg University wrestling team tied one match and lost the other at the University of Buffalo Duals on Saturday. The Huskies tied Buffalo, 17-17, and lost to Appalachain State, 23-17.

                In the match with Buffalo, the Huskies started quickly winning four of the first five matches. Mike Sees (Northumberland/Shikellamy) started the match with a 19-6 win at 125 pounds followed by Jason Guffey (Muncy/Warrior Run) winning 10-3 at 133 pounds. After a win by the Bulls at 141, Dennis Bermudez (Suagerties, NY/Suagerties) won by decision and Matt Moley (Phoenixville/Spring-Ford) by major decision giving Bloomsburg a 14-3 lead. Buffalo, though, came back with wins in the next four bouts to take a 17-14 lead going into the heavyweight bout. In the 285 pound match, the Huskies’ Mike Spaid (Perkiomenville/Boyertown) pulled out a 1-0 victory to give Bloomsburg the tie.

                In the match with Appalachian State, the Huskies got wins from Sees, by technical fall; Moley, Ricky Schmelyun (New Oxford/Bermudian Springs) and a pin by Spaid in the six-point loss.

                Bloomsburg, now 1-4-1, is idle till Dec. 29-30 at the Southern Scuffle in North Carolina.
